LGA bids to boost teen involvement

The Local Government Association (LGA) is aiming to invigorate young people’s interest in local politics and community issues with a series of debates dubbed ‘I’m a councillor, get me out of here’.

Inspired by ITV’s similarly titled celebrity reality TV show, councillors from 25 authorities will put forward their manifestoes on youth issues to 14 to 18-year-olds in local schools and colleges.

Young people will be asked to vote for the councillors who best represent their views, eliminating the councillor with the fewest votes.

The three-week initiative kicks off on 4 October, with its final week timed to coincide with Local Democracy Week.

It is being devised and promoted by Gallomanor Communications.
