Brown has taken the newly created role of head of media relations, as the firm bolsters its profile to compete with more established rivals British Gas, Powergen and Npower. He will also promote EDF’s credentials as a socially responsible company, as it seeks to address fuel poverty and energy efficiency.
Brown leaves WS after 15 months, where he was a director in its strategic media group and developed the agency’s media training business. He was previously editor of Channel 4’s political programme Powerhouse.
According to EDF Energy director of comms Gareth Wynn, to whom Brown reports, the firm has ten per cent of the UK residential gas and electricity market.
The EDF Energy brand was launched into the UK utilities market last year, after EDF’s acquisition of London Electricity Group.
It is one of several corporate backers for the London 2012 Olympic bid. Brown will handle relationships with consumer agency Shine Communications.
