Tax body in hunt for comms boss

The UK’s newly merged tax department HM Revenue & Customs has kicked off a hunt for a director of comms and put HM Customs and Excise comms chief Gary Jones in interim charge.

Jones will lead comms and marketing at the department, created by the merger of HM Customs and Excise and The Inland Revenue (IR), following recommendations made in the O’Donnell Review.

The new entity will see 16,000 jobs axed from the 100,000 employed across both departments. It is not known how many cuts will affect the 80 comms staff in the two departments.

IR director of marcoms Ian Schoolar is to leave his post at the end of September.
