Adecco hunts comms chief after Vassard exit

International recruitment firm Adecco has launched a shake-up of its communications following problems explaining irregularities in its accounts earlier this year.

Adecco is to appoint a new head of comms following the departure of top group PRO Francois Vassard. Vassard, who was marketing and communication manager, is now working for Adecco as a part-time consultant.

Adecco is thought to be in the early stages of the recruitment process for its head of comms position.

Adecco director of media relations Vanessa Oakes (née Muir), hired by Vassard in January (PRWeek, 8 January), did not return calls.

Vassard’s departure comes almost seven months after Adecco drafted in Brunswick to handle City anger at the company’s failure to immediately explain the ‘material weaknesses in internal controls’ in its North American operations (PRWeek, 23 January).

Adecco group finance director Felix Weber and Adecco Staffing North America CEO Julio Arrieta subsequently resigned.

Weber was replaced in April by Deutsche Post divisional MD Jim Friedholm.

On Tuesday, Adecco reported an 11 per cent rise in its second-quarter net profits.

A £20m gain from the sale of internet portal jobpilot helped cushion the blow of the £27m the company had to spend on sorting out the delay in its 2003 financial reporting.

Adecco ended its relationship with Brunswick and continues to work with retained financial comms adviser Cubitt Consulting.
