Kerry turns to Clinton adviser

WASHINGTON, DC: The Democrats have called in Joe Lockhart, a former chief spokesman for the Clinton administration, as a key member of the Kerry/Edwards campaign as President Bush opens up a significant lead in the opinion polls.

Lockhart, a media relations and political strategist, will serve as a senior adviser.

Lockhart ran the daily press conferences for White House journalists during the Clinton administration and briefed the president on press matters. He was also national press secretary for the Clinton/Gore 1996 re-election campaign.

Also joining the communications team, as director of rapid response, is Joel Johnson, MD of PR and crisis communications agency The Harbour Group.
