CDR heads deal table on back of National Grid job

Citigate Dewe Rogerson has jumped eight places to top this month’s Deal Watch after a steep decline in the volume of deals completed and announced in August.

CDR is advising National Grid Transco on the £5.8bn sale of its English, Welsh and Scottish gas networks to Scottish & Southern Energy. Financial Dynamics, which moved up four places to second, is advising Scottish & Southern on the deal.

Brunswick, top in July, fell to third in August, but still managed to work on more than £2.6bn of deals, including the Barclay brothers’ acquisition of the Telegraph Group, for which the firm advised the Barclays bid vehicle Press Acquisitions.

New entries to the top 10 include Penrose Financial, which advised venture capital group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company on the £982m acquisition of ATU Auto-Teile Unger & Co from rival VC firm Doughty Hanson & Co.

Text 100 makes a surprise entry to the top ten after advising semi-conductor memory developer Artisan Components on the £505m purchase of the firm by Arm Holdings. Murray Consultants, which along with CDR advised Tullow Oil on its £273m acquisition of Energy Africa, also joins the table.

The £20.9bn total volume of deals worked on by August’s top ten firms was nearly £12bn less than the Deal Watch total for July.
