De Beers in global PR hire

The Diamond Trading Company, the sales and marketing arm of the De Beers Group and the world’s largest source of diamonds, has appointed Hill & Knowlton to handle global corporate PR on fees of at least £1m per year.

The WPP agency won a three-way pitch for a reputation and issues management remit that spans countries such as the US, the UK, China, India, South Africa, Israel and Belgium.

London-based corporate communications MD Stuart Wilson leads the account.

H&K worked on a project basis for De Beers Group two years ago but this win marks its first contract for the DTC, according to Wilson.

The account is to be run independently from the DTC’s consumer PR, which continues to be run by the DTC’s Diamond Information Centre.
