Edelman Brussels rejigs comms after Lester exit

BRUSSELS: Edelman Brussels general manager Charlotte Lester is to leave the agency to relocate to India.

Edelman has split her role, promoting directors Teemu Lehtinen and Laura Currie to MD of public affairs and MD of public relations respectively.

In addition, Edelman Europe vice-chairman Michael Burrell has been handed an extra remit as chairman of the Brussels operation.

Lester is stepping down to pursue a new life in India, having previously founded the agency’s First&42nd offering in Mumbai.

Lehtinen, who joined Edelman in 2002, will oversee PA clients in Brussels, which include Pfizer, Toy Industries of Europe, biotech firm Biogen and energy giant EDF. He started political campaigning on behalf of the Finnish Industry Federation when Finland was preparing to join the EU in 1994.

Currie joined Edelman Brussels in October 2000, having worked with the agency in Canada since 1998. Edelman’s Brussels public relations practice covers reputation, crisis and issues management for multinational clients including UPS and Chiquita.

Burrell said that about 60 per cent of the Brussels office’s revenue came from its PA division and that it is recruiting for an account manager and executive.
