Constant denied the creation of the new posts was related to UK chief Neil Bennett’s resignation in May to become managing partner at The Maitland Consultancy (PRWeek, 7 May).
Constant said: ‘I, and the executive committee, decided at the beginning of the year that we would embark upon a major recruiting drive in London, New York, Tokyo and Australia.’ He attributed the initiative to business growth.
The London office will continue to be managed by the agency’s six MDs. GA business development manager Mark Lunn said: ‘We won’t be directly replacing Bennett at present.’
Speed, who joined this week, has spent 20 years in the City, primarily as an analyst, most recently working in a sales role at Collins Stewart, which he left in January.
His previous roles have included coverage of the UK Engineering and Autos sector at Henderson Crosthwaite as research director, where he spent more than eight years.
Since adopting specialist sales roles, his career has covered stints at Altium Capital and Sky Capital.
No specific date has been announced for Bennett to join Maitland.
It is understood that his contractual obligations with GA parent company Omnicom require that he serve a six-month notice period.
