Ebookers puts UK corporate account up for pitch

LONDON - Online travel firm ebookers is reviewing its UK IR, corporate and financial PR account following its hire of chief financial officer Michael Healy.

Head of communications Oliver Strong said eight firms were pitching for the account.

Incumbent Cubitt Consulting is battling challengers College Hill, GCG Hudson Sandler, Catullus Consulting, M Communications, Buchanan Communications, The Maitland Consultancy and Weber Shandwick.

Strong said Healy's appointment in May had given ebookers 'the opportunity to look at providers on the IR side'.

He added that on-target sales for the first quarter of 2004 had not translated into an increase in share price and the company needed to communicate a recovery in travel sales after 'a difficult year in the long-haul market'.

Cubitt partner Fergus Wylie has run the ebookers account since it won the business from GCI Financial in 2001.

Wylie denied this week that he had resigned from Cubitt but declined to comment on speculation that he is in talks about a position outside the firm.
