Hartlepool fights doorstep crime

Hartlepool Borough Council has launched a campaign to crack down on doorstep crime and bogus callers.

Public protection and housing staff are to visit community groups and give presentations based on a video produced by the North of England Trading Standards Group.

The Beware The Bogeyman video is presented by Brian Steele, ex-detective chief superintendent of West Yorkshire Police, which advises on safety.

A council spokesman said: ‘There is concern about bogus-caller crime and distraction burglaries.’

Council technical officer Brian Dinning said: ‘The presentations are mainly aimed at adults in the older age range.’
