M hires Darlington as European adviser

Deal shop M Communications has employed former BNP Paribas head of pan-European equity research Joanna Darlington as the firm pushes into the Continental market.

Darlington, who has spent 13 years heading European equity research for three investment banks, is advising M’s European clients, which include French construc-tion materials group Lafarge, Scandinavian telecoms firm TeliaSonera and Dutch investment bank ABN AMRO.

Darlington was appointed Hoare Govett head of pan-European research in 1991. She joined BNP in 1997 as head of European equity research.

M co-founders Nick Miles and Hugh Morrison said Darlington would act as the firm’s ‘corporate conscience’ by advising clients on their response to corporate governance and accounting trends.

Darlington’s role at BNP Paribas has been scrapped following the merger of the group’s equity research division with French independent broker Exane in April to form Exane BNP Paribas.
