The Thai Terrace is exactly what it says it is on the label and more.
The chic Eastern-style interior with generous pre-dinner drinks seating and charming, highly individual chairs in the restaurant would not be out of place in central London. Outside, the terrace provides the perfect summer-time eating experience with views over Guildford and plenty of strategically placed bamboo plants.
Opened in September 2003 and packed every weekend night since, great attention to detail has been paid to the overall presentation, from the cinnamon stick garnish on the menus, to the staff uniforms which are very Crouching Tiger meets The Matrix.
The staff create a genuinely welcoming feel and having chosen from a broad lunchtime menu, the service was impeccable. A sophisticated wine list offers remarkably good value.
The only downside was that our meals slightly failed to live up to my great expectations of Thai cuisine. My Prawn Vermicelli and my associate director's Green Thai curry could have both had more distinctive complexity.
Perhaps the chef was pulling his lunchtime punches.
All that said, the overall experience makes for a sophisticated, positive and fun business lunchtime.
