Diary: Hit or Miss... Benetton

Italian clothing company Benetton's touchy-feely and politically correct image was floored this week after The Independent reported how it had a native Indian couple evicted from traditionally native land that the company owns in Patagonia, Argentina. A court ruling in the southern city of Esquel, at the end of May, ordered a Mapuche couple to return land which it uses to graze sheep for its sweaters. The subsequent co-opting of its marketing slogan to the protest 'United colours of land grab' was not its finest hour.
