RSPCA in animal welfare law drive

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is poised to launch a campaign to highlight current shortcomings in animal welfare law.

The campaign kicks off on 28 July, as the Government begins its three-month consultation on the Animal Welfare Bill.

The RSPCA is lobbying MPs to change existing legislation that prevents the prosecution of animal abusers until there is proof that an animal has suffered physical cruelty.

The association wants to be able to intervene before the animal has suffered physical harm by making neglect of an animal’s welfare a criminal offence.
