Sowells takes on dual BP-PA role

Former Turner Broadcasting UK public affairs director David Sowells is to join Bell Pottinger Public Affairs in a move that marks his return to lobbying after a three-year break.

Sowells will join BP-PA next month as a director, where he will have a dual role involved in managing the business as well as advising clients.

Managing director Peter Bingle said he hired Sowells after working with him previously at The Communication Group and GPC.

He added that details of Sowells’s role were still being hammered out, although he was likely to work with clients with which he has previous experience.

These include McDonald’s and 3i. Sowells is also likely to play a significant role within the telecommunications and media sectors, drawing on his experience as media industries practice head at GPC.

Since leaving Turner Broadcasting three years ago, Sowells has worked in a management role at retail business John Mills.

Bingle said he hoped to secure three other ‘major’ appointments within the next three months .

Last month, BP-PA won eBay’s first PA account, but lost out on a contract with British Energy after Neil Stockley’s anti-nuclear record was revealed.
