EUpolitix.com slashes workforce after takeover

Public affairs news website EUpolitix.com has laid off almost two-thirds of its staff following Huveaux Plc’s acquisition of the portal’s parent company Parliamentary Communications (PC).

The 18-month-old site, which made a loss of £400,000 last year, will be staffed by only six of its original 16 employees, with eight reporters from PC’s The Parliament Magazine also contributing to EUpolitix.com.

Huveaux owns two other political news websites, DodOnline and Le Trombinoscope.

‘We were EUpolitix.com’s competition before we acquired it and we covered all the same stories,’ said Huveaux chairman and founder John Van Kuffeler. ‘Now there is no need to get two separate sets of staff to write those stories.’

He added that the website’s poor financial performance had also influenced the decision to reduce its staff.
