Gibbons replaces Brian Mairs, who has left APCIMS to take up the post of head of information at the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute.
Gibbons was head of national and regional PR for the Millennium Dome until 1999 when he joined Band & Brown Communications as an account director (PRWeek, 3 December 1999).
At Visa International between 2000 and 2002, Gibbons worked on the firm’s promotional planning for the new ‘chip and pin’ credit card security system before joining Manning Selvage & Lee as an associate director.
A few months later, he was made redundant and has since worked as a freelance comms consultant, most recently for the Land Registry.
Gibbons’s main tasks will be advising the not-for-profit industry group on PR, public policy and liaising with regulators such as the Financial Services Authority.
