Diary: Yelland gets cosy with Doherty

An inauspicious start to the foresight-to-spot-a-calamity credentials of incoming Weber Shandwick senior vice-chairman David Yelland.

Sitting beside Cohn & Wolfe corporate chief Stephen Doherty at the Stadio da Luz last Sunday night, Yelland remarked to his fellow PR ligger as Zinedine Zidane stepped up to take his equalising free kick: 'Well at least we can't lose.'

The pair were invited to the game by a 'mutual acquaintance' who was so confident they would get on, he even booked them a shared twin-bed room.

If this episode is a guide, WS will have to keep Yelland away from the crisis management briefs at least for a while.
