The agreement follows intervention by the Advisory Conciliatory and Arbitration Service (ACAS), which specialises in disputes between employers and trade unions.
The dispute was prompted by the council’s review of its comms team following consultancy with agency Marina Pirotta Communications (MPC), which recommended streamlining the department from eight to five positions.
Staff were asked to reapply for the roles available, prompting a walk-out.
A council spokesman said: ‘The council attempted to engage with its employees throughout the review of communications, but our repeated efforts to consult staff and their representatives did not meet with a response. Ultimately, we resorted to the services of ACAS and are pleased to reach an agreement with the staff.’
