Diary: Luton Uni gives PR students a 'date'

Luton University has come up with an intriguing solution for eager PR students desperate to bag a job, but unable to fit courting employers into their busy lecture schedules.

Last month, around 20 of the university's PR students met 40 in-house and agency PROs for a 'speed networking' event at the Michael Angelou restaurant in St Albans.

Students and prospective employers got around four minutes to garble sweet nothings to each other at the schmooze session, which was organised by IPR student representative Alison Delecia with the help of the IPR Thames & Chiltern Regional Group.

IPR head of membership Paul Roberts said Delecia's speed-dating idea was more about 'confidence building' than serious networking.

That said, second-year Ellie Rees said a free glass of wine helped to calm her nerves and get 'loaded with PR contacts'.

We wait to hear whether the PROs also found their future perfect partner.
