Voluntary Sector: Campaign raises needs of blind

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association is embarking on a media relations and public affairs campaign to raise awareness about the areas in which healthcare services for blind and partially sighted people can be improved.

The organisation is targeting MPs, GPs' surgeries, the healthcare specialist press and health editors on national and regional newspapers with details of its report on NHS Services for visually impaired people, which found that more than a third feel their GP is not fully aware of their needs.

This campaign coincides with the association's 'healthy eyes awareness month' targeting company HR directors and health and safety officers through specialist press and main news outlets, to promote proactive eye healthcare policies.
