Making pledges on an online form from its 26 February launch, more than 5,000 people have signed up to do one of ten things in the next year to reduce their environmental impact. These include planting a tree, turning off the tap when cleaning teeth and replacing one household light bulb with an energy-saving one.
EA chief executive Barbara Young said: 'Research shows that nearly three-quarters of the population might be encouraged to do more to help the environment if they thought it would make a difference. Our online campaign figures clearly show how much of a difference 5,000 people are making.'
Celebrity support included Alistair McGowan and Chris Tarrant, both of whom planted trees.
