M&S lifted by £7bn offer and management rejig

The past week has seen a turnaround in Marks & Spencer’s coverage as a management shake-up propelled the retailer from the bottom of last week’s Reputation Monitor to second.

The appointment of Paul Myners as chairman and Stuart Rose as CEO played well with the City. M&S directors’ swift rejection of Philip Green’s £7bn offer also went down well.

Tesco reclaimed the top spot this week after an Automobile Association survey showed four out of five of the cheapest petrol stations are run by the supermarket and its rival Sainsbury’s.

The monitor is compiled from Thomson Intermedia’s National News Index, a measure of media sentiment excluding stock market reports and passing mentions.
