APPOINTMENT: Public sector specialist The Forster Company has appointed Lisa Mangan as communications consultant, a newly created senior role. Mangan will work across accounts including the promotion of the Sexual Offences Act for the Home Office, and the youth activities programme Positive Futures, a national campaign for the YWCA. Since 2002 Mangan has worked as a freelance consultant for clients including the Cabinet Office and Fishburn Hedges.
EVENT: The Action with Communities in Rural England, a body that promotes rural interests, has announced that its major annual The Rural Life Conference, this year entitled There is a Rural Future, Best Value Solutions for Local Communities, will take place on 15-16 July at the Harper Adams University College in Telford, Shropshire.
CAMPAIGN: VisitLondon has introduced regionalised websites across the US as part of a £5m campaign to lure Americans who have avoided the capital in the wake of 9/11. Other promotional activities include radio and press advertising as well as online advertising and competitions.
NORFOLK: Norfolk County Council’s trading standards department has teamed up with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency as part of a campaign to warn the public, especially children, about the dangers of using inflatable toys at the seaside, which account for about 650 rescues a year nationwide.
STUDENT PRIZES: The Cardiff School of Journalism has awarded its Golly Slater PR-sponsored Student of the Year prize to Tom McGarry. The school’s IPR Wales-sponsored Tim Evans Memorial Award went to Emily Shelton. Both students completed the postgraduate diploma in public and media relations.
