Jernstedt, who will join on 1 July, said the opportunity to work for a larger agency on new business development and client service convinced him to move.
He added that he didn’t feel pushed aside at GH when he relinquished the CEO title last July after 12 years.
Jernstedt spent 26 years at GH. In recent years, he led the charge to expand its international network as the agency sought to solidify its position as a major brand within the IPG portfolio.
When Jernstedt became chairman, Fred Cook was named CEO. Cook, an 18-year GH veteran, was named president of the agency in September 2002.
F-H chairman John Graham said: ‘We expect Jernstedt to be a resource for every office around the world.’
Jernstedt will work with F-H senior partner and president for client relations Jack Modzelewski. Senior V-P Cynthia Hardie remains Chicago office chief.
