A spokesman confirmed Direct Wines had ‘dipped a toe in the water’ and ‘[got] some quotes from PR agencies’, but added that it was ‘very unlikely we’ll do anything with these in the near future’.
The search and selection process was aided by Pembridge Partners.
Direct Wines’ trading identities include Laithwaites, The Sunday Times Wine Club and The British Airways Wine Club. It has also set up partnerships to provide online wine services with Egg, Cahoot and Morgan Stanley.
The operation has historically tended to use agencies on a project basis.
