Govt considers immigration PR

The Government is considering drafting in a PR agency to promote its policies on asylum-seekers and immigration.

A Home Office spokesperson said various options were being examined for a PR campaign, set to kick off in just two months, stressing that ministers had not made ‘any final decisions’.

One media report earlier this week, based on what was described as ‘a leaked 14-page strategy paper’, said the campaign will include attempts to generate and ‘place’ positive stories about migrants.

The spokesperson added: ‘We are always looking at how best to make clear to the public that we have tough entry controls in place and will selectively admit to the UK migrants who will contribute and benefit our economy.’
