Tesco axes sick pay Revelations that Tesco was piloting a scheme to ban sick-pay for the first three days of any illness, coming just weeks after the supermarket giant reported annual profits of around £1.7bn, could have turned into a PR disaster. But despite some dissenting pieces (one raged: 'How keen will we be to buy fish from the man at the fish counter if he has a streaming cold or dreadful diarrhoea?'), Tesco's reputation has thus far been relatively unscathed. Articles generally mentioned how shopworkers' union Usdaw and the supermarket chain's staff were supporting the trials.
