ECD Insight builds Italy/Spain clients

PARIS: London-based corporate comms company ECD Insight is planning to launch a drive to capture clients in southern Europe.

The agency, which sells media coaching and investor relations services, has hired Bloomberg’s London-based head of French TV Marc Cantarelli. Cantarelli joined ECD last week and is working alongside ECD partner and Paris head Thierry Roland to build a client base in Italy and Spain.

ECD currently has no Italian or Spanish clients beyond local work for the firm’s international clients, which include Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, ratings agency Standard & Poor’s, oil service group Schlumberger, the OECD, industrial gas group Air Liquide and chemicals group Clariant.

Cantarelli, who has dual French and Italian citizenship, worked at Bloomberg for six-and-a-half years before leaving the financial media firm last month. At Bloomberg, he ran a 30-strong team based in London, Paris and New York. He was replaced as French TV editor by deputy editor Pierrick Pedel.

Prior to working at Bloomberg, Cantarelli was a senior journalist at LCI, the 24-hour news network controlled by French TV channel TF1. Before joining LCI he was also head of multilingual bulletins at Euronews.

Last year, ECD hired former CNBC newsreader Axel Threlfall to take the role of media director with a remit taking in Frankfurt, Madrid and Paris (PRWeek, 23 January 2003).

Roland is also a former journalist, having worked as London correspondent for French business journal La Tribune until joining ECD in 2002 (PRWeek, 21 November 2002).
