Ex-JHFS chief Peters takes GE Financial’s top IR role

RICHMOND, VA: Former John Hancock Financial Services (JHFS) IR senior vice-president Jean Peters has resurfaced at GE Financial.

Peters has been appointed senior vice-president of IR and corporate comms of Genworth Financial, the GE Financial Services subsidiary planning to list on the stock market in the next two months.

Peters will be responsible for global comms to Genworth investors, the media and debt-rating agencies. She will report to Genworth chairman, president and CEO Michael Fraizer.

Peters led the IR push around JHFS’s initial public offering in 2000 and worked on the firm’s merger with Manulife Financial, which closed last month.

She has also worked at Allmerica Financial Corp and Capital Holding Company, having started her career as a reporter.

Genworth was formed by GE in 2003 to acquire the conglomerate’s life insurance, long-term care insurance, group life and health benefits, retirement planning and mortgage insurance businesses in the US, Australia, Canada and Europe.

Following the listing, Genworth will keep GE Financial Assurance’s management.

GE will retain a majority stake in Genworth, which will have more than £56bn in assets and is expected to be a Fortune 200 company.
