The appointment marks the bus, coach, light rail and metro operators trade association’s first hiring of a PR agency. Communique director Chris Wood said: ‘Most people who have not been on a bus for 20 or 30 years think they are akin to the old sitcom On The Buses.
‘Research shows people have these dated perceptions, yet bus services are reliable and modern and it is our job to reflect that in the mainstream and regional media.’
The appointment kicks off with a report charting the state of the nation’s buses to demonstrate how bus use and services have improved.
According to CPT, there were an extra 110 million bus journeys made in 2003 compared to the previous year, allowing operators to invest in nearly 9,000 new buses.
Communique will also promote the National Federation of Bus Users Awards and bus and coach shows.
