Finsbury assists Corus board bid

Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has enlisted Finsbury to assist his candidate Adrianus van der Velden’s bid for a seat on the board of Anglo-Dutch steel company Corus.

Usmanov, who holds a stake of more than 13 per cent in Corus through Gallagher Holdings, was expected to push for representation on the board at its AGM on 22 April.

Corus, which retains Brunswick as its PR agency, issued a statement to the London Stock Exchange on 19 April indicating resistance to van der Velden’s campaign: ‘The board is confident in the management team. It is inappropriate to be distracted in this task by Usmanov.’

Finsbury senior partner Rollo Head said the agency’s post-AGM role will be determined by developments.
