Well joins US SEC as director of PA

NEW YORK: The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Matthew Well as its director of public affairs, a position that had been vacant for almost a year.

Well, who started on 5 April, oversees a six-strong PA team in which one of two deputy director positions remains vacant following the departure of Herb Perone last month.

A former PA director of civil justice group American Tort Reform Association, Well takes responsibility for the commission’s daily media relations and PR efforts and is its first PA director since Harvey Pitt resigned as chairman in November 2002.

He succeeds Christi Harlan, who left in April 2003 after 15 months in the job to head the PA office at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Perone is now associate V-P for media relations at the National Association of Securities Dealers.

‘We’re in the process of looking at staffing in terms of how many people we need,’ explained deputy PA director John Heine.
