Roche expands Counsel’s PR role

The consumer health division of Swiss-based pharma firm Roche has consolidated its trade press PR for vitamin and indigestion brands with Counsel PR – an account that is believed to be worth six-figure fees.

Counsel, which for the past two years has handled trade and consumer PR for market leader Rennie, has seen its brief expand to include trade PR for Sanatogen, Berocca, Redoxon and Bepanthen nappy rash ointment.

Roche Consumer Health trade marketing director Duncan Kettles said the decision to consolidate the brands into a single agency was made in order to ease media access to information on each of them. Kettles said: ‘Some of the brands benefit from product synergies, so it makes sense for one agency to handle them all.’

The account will be managed by Counsel account director Yvette Murphy, who will report to Kettles. Murphy works entirely on trade PR, which Kettles highlighted as a reason behind appointing the agency.

Counsel account manager Sarah Murphy said: ‘We will probably be conducting a lot of educational work in the trade press and may do some advertorials.

‘Rennie faces a major challenge in improving its merchandising, but there is plenty going on with each brand in terms of marketing support and market share. We want to talk to the trade press about that.’

The scope of the work for the Sanatogen brand includes Sanatogen Gold, Vital 50+, ProNatal and Kids.
