SA wine brand plans PR assault

South African wine producer Vinfruco’s Thandi brand is set to capitalise on broadsheet and broadcast media coverage of South Africa’s Freedom Day on 27 April, which celebrates ten years of democracy.

Thandi was founded in 1995 as a farming project for disadvantaged communities and represents the progress the country has made in the past decade, said Alan Twigg, managing director at Nexus Communications. Nexus has been appointed to the six-figure PR account for four Vinfruco brands, including UK top-20 sellers Anniston Bay and Thandi.

Vinfruco’s media relations work will build on South Africa’s reputation as a wine producer and Nexus will work closely with marketing body Wines of South Africa. Trade PR will aim to boost Vinfruco’s profile in trade media rather than push the individual brands, which already have distribution deals.
