Southwark ends comms review

The London Borough of Southwark’s comms department has completed a two-year departmental review, it announced this week.

A best value review two years ago prompted the shake-up, which was drawn up by comms staff, political leaders and chief officers, and centralised the operation without cutting staff.

Corporate comms manager Lise Colyer said: ‘Individual business units were relatively independent in terms of how they spent their comms funds.

‘Now comms managers in each of our six departments will co-ordinate all comms activity through the centre.’

Changes include a new website with a discussion forum, guidelines to give all publications a sense of cohesive identity, and the redesign of the council magazine.
