FSA personal financial press office manager Rob McIvor is to take on the most senior pure communications role at the authority and will report to FSA director of people and comms Vernon Everitt, who was appointed last year following a comms shake-up (PRWeek, 17 October 2003).
McIvor’s job title has also changed to head of media and web comms to highlight the FSA press office’s activities with media beyond print.
McIvor joined the FSA in 2000. He was previously corporate public relations manager at high-street bank The Woolwich.
McIvor is now recruiting for his previous position and has two press office managers reporting to him as well as managing a team of seven junior PROs. Kate Burns runs the wholesale (institutional) side of the FSA’s press office, while Dave Rundell is in charge of the authority’s website.
McIvor said that while he could not completely rule out the FSA appointing a PR agency in the future it was ‘tantamount to impossible’ for an external agency to work so closely with the regulator because of the confidential nature of much of its work.
