Visual comms awards: The Media Trust won the Grand Prix at the International Visual Communications Association Awards 2004 for its work with charity Addaction.

Consumer Pitch: Gas and electricity price comparison firm The Energy Helpline is on the hunt for its first consumer PR agency to support its expansion. Ify Anyaetbunam, who is responsible for the company’s PR and marketing, said The Energy Helpline will be taking written proposals over the next four to six weeks for the brief to target the financial press.

Appointment: Citigate Comms has promoted deputy MD Janet Rafferty to managing director to replace Adrian Roxan, who has resigned from the agency after eight years. Rafferty joined Citigate four-and-a-half years ago from CPR Worldwide.

US Election: Brunswick partner James Rubin has joined the presidential campaign of Democrat candidate John Kerry. He is expected to take a full-time job with the Kerry team next month.

Agency MBO: Carr Communications is being bought out by its management in a deal understood to be worth in the region of £6m to £8m. The 20 staff at the PR and media training agency were informed of the deal last week.

Healthcare PR: GPC London has appointed Dirk van Eeden as a senior policy adviser at its healthcare practice. He was previously vice-president at Fleishman-Hillard South Africa.

Olympic bid: London 2012 plans to bolster its in-house comms team by recruiting an additional PR officer who will report to head of PR Jackie Brock-Doyle.

Consumer PR: The Biography Channel has hired Rain Communications to manage a two-month PR campaign. The celebrity-based satellite channel, which appointed Rain after a pitch against Firefly Communications, will target tabloids and weekly magazines.
