PARE probe to aid arthritis lobby

Arthritis patient representative body People with Arthritis/Rheumatism in Europe (PARE) has launched a PR drive to back a Europe-wide survey to garner information from sufferers about the social, health and economic effects of living with the conditions.

Healthcare professionals across France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden and the UK are being urged to encourage their patients to take part in the online survey, along with members of PARE and its sister organisations, such as the British Society for Rheumatology and Arthritis Care.

The survey will look at the availability of arthritis and rheumatology information, treatment and social services in the different countries, and the relationship between patients and physicians.

Local PARE representatives are publicising the campaign to regional and national press across Europe and hundreds of patients are expected to take part in the investigation. It follows a smaller qualitative study that took place three years ago.

PARE intends to use the survey’s results to lobby the EU to improve the quality of life of patients.

‘Having information from the survey at our fingertips will enable us to lobby policy-makers more effectively,’ said PARE chair Neil Betteridge.
