CCW launches environment push

The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is to launch a consumer campaign to promote sustainable development and ‘reconnect’ people with their environment.

The Spring to Life campaign complements an international conference on sustainable development for policy-makers that opened in Cardiff last week.

CCW’s campaign aims to encourage everyone in Wales to take personal action, campaign co-ordinator Meinir Wigley said. ‘These small changes in people’s every-day lives could, in turn, make a major difference to Wales’ future,’ Wigley added.

As well as conventional media, the campaign incorporates a website, events, direct mail, seminars and workshops to publicise its messages, with the tagline ‘Spring to Life – choose your future’.

The campaign will run until the end of the year. CCW plans to measure the effectiveness of the campaign in three areas in September. If the campaign is deemed effective, the results will be passed on to the Welsh Assembly in a bid to continue the campaign on an ongoing basis.

CCW chief executive Roger Thomas added: ‘You can change to low-energy light bulbs, put on a sweater and turn down the heating. And if we choose to do something, we not only look after our environment, we also look after our health, strengthen our local communities and support our local economy.’
