Celebrities to aid cystic fibrosis record attempt

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT) has signed up celebrities Matthew Wright, Dr David Bull and Nancy Dell’Olio to assist its attempt to smash the Guinness world record for the most people bouncing on space hoppers for one minute.

The CFT is hoping The Big Bounce, co-ordinated by PR and events company IncrediBull Ideas, will raise £100,000 during Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week, from 20 to 28 March, for its £15m gene therapy research project.

CFT corporate fundraising officer Stefani Rush said more than 300 smaller events will be created by schools and supporters using the theme of The Big Bounce to raise money through sponsorships and donations.

‘The Big Bounce theme was chosen because it is great exercise,’ said CFT chief executive Rosie Barnes. ‘For CF sufferers it can reduce the time spent having physiotherapy to fight off infection.’

Wright, who presents The Wright Stuff, Bull, from BBC’s Watchdog, and CFT patron Dell’Olio will join members of the public on 26 March to challenge the current record of 551.

While the main record attempt will take place at West India Quay in London, bouncers will simultaneously take part at centres across the UK including Belfast, Birmingham and Bristol.
