Chelgate appoints CIID’s Macintyre to bolster team

PR and public affairs consultancy Chelgate has moved to bolster its knowledge of government policy-making by appointing the former head of the Communication and Information Industries Directorate (CIID) of the Department of Trade and Industry, William Macintyre.

Macintyre spent eight years at CIID from its inception and joins a public affairs team of ten at Chelgate as executive vice-president.

According to Chelgate executive vice-president Michael Hardware, Macintyre has particular expertise in the information technology and energy sectors and had experience in both UK and European policy-making.

Hardware said the new business public sector activity had ‘leaped into action after 1 January’ but had since calmed.

He said Macintyre would be a great asset for future public tender pitches.Chairman and chief executive Terence Fane-Saunders said: ‘His direct personal experience of policy formation at the highest level will allow businesses not only to understand how government policy thinking will affect them but also to undertake the detailed projection of scenarios and outcomes which is central to far-sighted political risk analysis.’
