Sport England snaps up LTA’s Dent to head PR

Sport England has poached Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) PRO Kris Dent to become head of communications at the funding body.

Dent oversees the LTA’s media relations and public affairs function as comms manager, managing a seven-strong team reporting to director of comms Heidi Cohu.

Dent joined the LTA in April 2002 as comms manager for development and grassroots, managing media relations to promote tennis and grassroots activity.

Sport England refused to divulge further details about the post but it is understood Dent will be managing a similar sized team in his new role.

Sport England delivers the Government’s sporting objectives and distributes both Lottery and government funds to the sport industry.

Formally the English Sports Council, it works to improve people’s health, particularly the health of disadvantaged groups, and promotes a network of clubs, coaches and volunteers. Dent was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press.

Sport England director of business development Michelle Phillips said: ‘We are delighted that Kris is joining us as head of communications at Sport England. He has excellent communications experience and understanding of the sports arena. We are looking forward to him joining the team in the middle of May.’

It is not yet known who will replace Dent when he leaves the LTA, but the post will not be changed.

An LTA spokesman said: ‘Kris is going to be leaving and therefore we will be looking to fill his role in the shape of a combined public affairs and national media comms manager.’
