Catholic Church set to fill PR post

The Catholic Church has launched its recruitment drive to find a new director of comms to replace Mark Morley who left in November last year to become network PR manager for Scottish Enterprise.

Current acting director is head of news and former Fleet Street journalist Oliver Wilson, who is understood to be one of the candidates.

The role was created two years ago when Morley was appointed to the post (PRWeek, 10 August 2001).

He set up the first comms directorate, oversaw staff cuts from the previous PR team and managed fierce media criticism about the alleged cover-up of paedophile activity. Morley said the reason for his departure was to return to Scotland, although it is believed he was disillusioned with the job.
