Ogilvy practice chiefs resign as Barber arrives

Ogilvy PR Worldwide has been hit by the resignations of two London divisional heads just days before the arrival of newly appointed European boss Paul Barber.

Corporate and tech practice head Barbara McCall and health and medical practice director Neil McGregor Paterson have resigned, it emerged this week.

Ogilvy has already appointed former Royal & SunAlliance director of PR Stephen Clark – a former colleague of Barber at car distribution firm Inchcape – as head of its UK corporate and technology team, effectively replacing McCall.

Clark will be reunited with incoming Europe, Middle East and Africa chief Paul Barber, with whom he worked at Inchcape in the late 1990s.

McCall is to leave Ogilvy within a month, taking with her Charlie Pryor, an associate director in the same group. McGregor Paterson will leave in May.

McCall, who has been at Ogilvy for almost four years, and Pryor are to set up their own ‘strategic communications’ agency, called The Word Shop, while McGregor Paterson is to ‘pursue a personal venture outside PR’, according to an Ogilvy statement.

An Ogilvy spokesman said none of the exits were linked with Barber’s appointment.

Clark, who was made redundant from insurance giant RSA last September, was formerly group communications director for Inchcape Plc in London.

He has was also held roles as client services director of Hill & Knowlton Asia and, subsequently, as MD of Shandwick’s Hong Kong office.

Clark will take charge of a ten-strong corporate/tech team, which has clients such as Sony Europe, Dell and Nortel Networks.

Barber, whose appointment was revealed a fortnight ago (PRWeek, 13 February), will join as chief executive across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region on 1 March.

Barber, the former Football Association marketing director, was group corporate affairs director at Inchcape from 1996 to 1998.

At Ogilvy Rob Shimmin continues in his role as managing director EMEA.
