US stock market names top PRO

New York: The American Stock Exchange has hired former Merrill Lynch press chief Fred Yager as its top PRO.

He joins as senior vice-president of corporate comms and reports to CEO Salvatore Sodano.

Yager was most recently president and founder of video news provider World News & Information Network. Prior to that he was vice-president of media relations and director of global broadcast services at Merrill Lynch, where he created Merrill Lynch Television.

‘We have an excellent broadcast studio here. I hope to use everything I learned at Merrill Lynch Television at the exchange,’ he said.

He said he hoped to change recent criticism of the stock exchange’s lack of brand recognition. The exchange has suffered from the perception that it is an also-ran to the NYSE and Nasdaq.
