Lancashire launches a road safety PR campaign

Lancashire County Council has embarked on a road safety campaign in a bid to reduce road accidents among local young people.

The council, which is working with the Road Safety Group on its ‘1 in 5’ campaign, aims to raise awareness that one in five newly qualified drivers are involved in a crash within their first year on the road.

The scheme will target 16 to 19-year-olds in Lancashire through a theatre production based on a true story about aggressive driving.

The production, Never Saw the Day, will tour schools and colleges across the county during February and March as part of the Road Safety Group’s

‘Theatre in Education’ initiative.

Members of the local Burnley football squad are supporting the scheme. They plan to attend a special performance of the play at Burnley College.

Lancashire pupils will also receive hazard perception videos and postcard-sized booklets with information for new drivers.
