OWBT to reward local reporting

The One World Broadcasting Trust (OWBT) has added a category for local and community media in this year’s One World Media Awards, which are funded by a clutch of NGOs including Save the Children, Unicef, ActionAid and Christian Aid.

The category will recognise outstanding coverage of development and international issues, which may also have a local perspective.

‘The Local Media Award is intended to enable a fairer playing field for non-national broadcast and print media,’ said OWBT director Ritchie Cogan. ‘Acknowledging its regional focus, coverage may reflect the

similarities of communities across the world, as well as straightforward reporting of overseas issues.’

The closing date for entries is 19 March.
