HBF appoints Media Strategy

The House Builders Federation has taken on Media Strategy to raise awareness among MPs of changes in planning rules in the North West.

The move aims to convince central government that the two-year-old changes, which have caused local authorities to restrict new building in parts of Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria, are harming the house building industry.

HBF director of external affairs John Slaughter said the hire had been prompted by concerns among members over the Government’s policy of reducing the number of new units to be developed in the North West in favour of other areas, namely the urban north Midlands: ‘It will risk the ability to regenerate in the north west, because when regeneration is needed, capacity will not be there.’

The HBF also raised its concerns with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Government office for the North West, which runs regional policy there, last spring, but got no response.

Media Strategy has been hired for two months initially, after which the federation may hold a pitch.
